William Aloysius McGowan (January 18, 1896 - December 9, 1954) was a Major League Baseball umpire in the American League from 1925 to 1954. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
During his career, McGowan umpired in 8 World Series: 1928, 1931, 1935, 1939, 1941, 1944, 1947 and 1950. He was also one of the umpires for the first All-Star Game in 1933, and later worked in the 1937, 1942 and 1950 games. He also was the plate umpire for the first American League pennant play-off game in 1948. During one sixteen-year period, McGowan did not miss a single inning (2,541 games).
