Dublin (Irish language Áth Cliath) is the county that contains the city of Dublin, the capital and largest city of the Republic of Ireland.
County Dublin is located on the East coast of Ireland in the province of Leinster. It is the third smallest county in Ireland with a land area of 921 km² (356 square miles). The census of 20021 recorded a total population of 1,122,821. It borders County Meath to the north-west, County Kildare to the south-west, and County Wicklow to the south.
Dublin City Council has existed for centuries, previously as Dublin Corporation, as a county borough, whilst Dublin County Council in 1994 was abolished and the three administrative counties have full local authority status since.
