Emperor Go-Kameyama of Japan

1424) was the 99th imperial ruler of Japan. He ruled from 1383 to 1392. Go-Kameyama was emperor during a period when there were two rival imperial courts claiming the throne: Go-Kameyama's southern court and a northern court which was backed by the Ashikaga shoguns. The Japanese government now officially considers Go-Kameyama and his court to have been the true emperors. However, in 1392, Go-Kameyama was defeated and abdicated in favor of the rival claimant, Emperor Go-Komatsu, making the northern dynasty the source of the subsequent Japanese monarchs.
