Handicapped is an adjective used to refer to a person or animal who is partially disabled or unable to use a limb or limbs. The use of this term is sometimes considered offensive, though it is preferable to the derogatory term "cripple". (Note, however, that the term "cripple" is used specifically to refer to a horse unable to race). Golf handicap: In games and sport such as go and golf, a handicap refers to the intentional disadvantaging of a more experienced player in order to make it possible for a less experienced player to participate in the same game whilst maintaining fairness. Similarly, in yacht racing handicap formulas exist to compensate racing results between yachts of different construction or dimensions.
