Harry Stovey



         


Harry Duffield Stovey (born December 20, 1856 in Philadelphia, PA, died September 20, 1937 in New Bedford, MA) was a baseball player for the Worcester Ruby Legs (1880-1882), Philadelphia Athletics (American Association) (1883-1889), Boston Reds (1890) and Beaneaters (1891-1892) [now Atlanta Braves], Baltimore Orioles (NL), (1892-1893), and the Brooklyn Grooms (1893).

A great home run hitter, Stovey (born Harry Duffield Stowe) was one of the first players to slide feet first.
