Hot dish

Hot dish (also hotdish) is a casserole-like food native to the Midwest, associated particularly with Minnesota. It normally consists of a starch, a meat, and a vegetable mixed together along with some type of sauce, often seasoned with pepper or tabasco sauce. (A typical hot dish might consist of potatoes, ground beef, and corn, with canned soup added for flavor and as a sauce.) Hot dish can be eaten either on a plate or in a bowl.
